Zouk Group executive chairman Hui Lim and CEO Andrew Li flew in last week to celebrate the opening of Zouk LA, a 16,500-square-foot nightclub that could quite possibly be the beginning of a new era for nightlife in Los Angeles.
The Zouk brand, of course, is a powerhouse in Asia with more than three decades and a hard-earned reputation as a pioneering dance-music player under its belt. Zouk LA is a partnership with Sam Nazarian’s SBE, and it’s in the storied West Hollywood space that was previously home to Greystone Manor and Nightingale.
Zouk LA, with its world-class sound system and good sightlines, is built for music-fueled nights. And after back-to-back-to-back nights of revelry, punctuated by a Metro Boomin set that started a little after 1 a.m. on Sunday morning, it felt like many guests left with more anticipation and excitement than they had before they walked inside.

Zouk LA has plans to regularly bring in the kind of headlining talent, including Kaskade, Illenium, Lil Wayne and James Hype, that Zouk has at its Las Vegas location inside the Resorts World casino.

But now Zouk LA, with its lasers and lights and top-tier talent and the throngs we saw outside Friday and Saturday, is giving Vegas vibes on La Cienega Boulevard.
Nazarian, who is an ace at reinvention but understands the value of old tricks, is also thinking about the history he has in Los Angeles. One thing you heard guests mention again and again during Zouk’s opening week was how Greystone Manor, which debuted in 2011, was an era-defining nightlife experience with its posh supper-club setting, its vibrant dance floor and its over-the-top Sunday parties.
